Greater Kruger SDP Landscape

The Greater Kruger region is a colourful mosaic. The famous Kruger National Park and neighbouring private and communal nature reserves boast some of the world’s most iconic wildlife, such as the Big Five. Beyond the fence lies large tracks of communal and commercial farmland, villages and towns. All living things here share the space of the Greater Kruger as between two and three million people call this vibrant region home.

BUT, a closer look reveals the challenges that threatens the fragile relationship between people and nature. As the human population and settlements grow and the need for land and resources increases, so conservation areas are increasingly under pressure. The need for multiple compatible land uses that balances the competing demands is growing.
