Project

The Hinterland biotope is a high-quality and species-rich natural area that was created as part of the Hinterland of Things conference in summer 2023. For this year's conference in 2024, the project area will be expanded by 10% to create more habitat for animals and plants.

Before the renaturalisation began, most of the project area in Brönninghausen was used intensively for agriculture, particularly for maize cultivation. Various measures are now helping to transform the area into a high-quality and species-rich ecosystem. The aim is to transform the area into a diverse ecosystem and to upgrade species-poor areas into species-rich habitats and protected areas.

The hinterland biotope covers an area of 3,850 square metres, which corresponds to the size of the event site. It is being upgraded to an orchard meadow where old and native fruit trees have been planted. The tree seedlings are surrounded by extensively utilised grassland, which primarily serves as a habitat and food source for small animals and insects.
