During this workshop, the focus shifted towards helping the community set specific objectives for the project.
The first day commenced with an introduction to objective setting, emphasizing the importance of effective management for the BMU. Attendees were guided through a structured process that highlighted the key steps in achieving good BMU management, including developing short-term objectives, assessing the current status, identifying necessary actions, taking action, and measuring progress.
To delve deeper into the specific challenges and issues faced by the community, participants were divided into smaller focus groups. Each group was assigned one of three tasks:
The first day concluded with the facilitators collecting and aggregating the lists generated by the focus groups. Their goal was to create a consolidated main list, removing redundancy and ensuring that all relevant factors were considered.
On the second day, participants revisited the concepts discussed on the previous day and collectively agreed on the main objectives that would guide their project efforts. Three primary objectives emerged from the workshop:
These clear objectives provided a focused direction for the project, setting the stage for targeted actions and efforts to improve the management and sustainability of the BMU and its fisheries.
It was decided that the community would initially focus on their first management objective: reducing drag net fishing in their BMU fishing grounds.
