Crabs can present challenges to restoration when they eat young propagules before they establish. However, to Eden's restoration team in Lamu, the presence of crab holes can also signal a readiness for restoration.

There are 80 species of mangrove globally, and Lamu is home to nine.

Direct planting method allows us to easily plant readily available propagules, quickly and efficiently to restore deforested areas.

In 2020, Eden began piloting a restoration strategy designed to increase survival rates by modeling our planting after healthy mangrove forests. Today, we're able to measure the success of this idea.
