Project
Responsible sourcing of wood products in the home improvement sector

Background

Lowe’s Companies, Inc. is a Fortune 50 home improvement company serving approximately 20 million customers a week in the United States and Canada. With fiscal year 2020 sales of nearly $90 billion, Lowe’s and its related businesses operate or service more than 2,200 home improvement and hardware stores and employ over 300,000 associates. Based in Mooresville, North Carolina, Lowe’s supports the communities it serves through programs focused on creating safe, affordable housing and helping to develop the next generation of skilled trade experts. Because of its size, the company’s sourcing choices can have significant influence on how forests are managed worldwide. Here you can find Lowe's wood procurement policy.

Scope of work

Lowe’s will participate in Forests Forward under the Responsible Sourcing action category in Year 1, which falls under SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production), and will explore opportunities for forest conservation and other sustainability issues in Year 2 and beyond. Together, WWF and Lowe’s will work to further Lowe’s wood policy implementation with a focus on FSC-certification of products from regions of risk.

In addition, Lowe’s will pursue opportunities for collaboration and collective action with other Forests Forward participants, supporting research on priorities for forest restoration in Canada and raising awareness of the importance of forests and the sourcing of responsible forest products among its employees and customers.
