FALL PLANTING 2024

Fall Planting by the Numbers

Our dedicated team worked tirelessly from October 22nd to November 22nd, making the most of every day to establish new forests.

In total, 225,076 seedlings were planted across 75 hectares in Lernajour 5. More than 90,000 closed-root birch trees grown in containers took center stage. The following forest tree species were also planted: Caucasian oak, wild pear, wild apple, elm, and maple trees.

Challenges & Triumphs

While the new afforestation site in Lernajour 5 required additional logistics, including the use of 4x4 trucks to transport workers, the planting process ran smoothly. Our team adapted to the terrain, ensuring every seedling and acorn was carefully placed to maximize growth potential.

This year three organizations planted named forests: Ardshinbank, JHM Foundation, Gulbenkian Foundation. A fourth named forest was planted thanks to the collective contribution of the Australian-Armenians. Their support underscores the collective drive to restore our natural landscapes.

With the planting done in spring, we have planted in total 339,650 trees this year.

A few days after finishing our last day of planting, winter took over. A generous 10cm of snow fell across the whole north of Armenia on November 27. It covers of course our recently planted fields. This is excellent news for our seedlings as the snow will provide protection from the cold and humidity will slowly penetrate to the roots.

We want to thank all our donors who contributed to the fall planting. Let’s start preparing the next planting season which will be in March next year.

Stay tuned for more updates as our forests take root and flourish!
