The Nature Collective was founded in 1987 and is based in North County San Diego. The Nature Collective serve as the steward of the San Elijo Lagoon to protect, restore and to provide educational and nature immersing experiences to the community.
Funding will go towards the removal of invasive plant species, the purchasing and installation of native plants and the maintenance, monitoring, and reporting of habitat restoration efforts for two years following work.
The increase in plant diversity will promote the proliferation of wildlife species such as the Wandering Skipper, a butterfly whose only host plant is saltgrass. This salt marsh is also vital habitat for the federally listed Belding’s savannah sparrow and a suite of other avian and arthropod species.
Nature Collective also provides volunteer, internship and educational opportunities to the local community and students across several grade levels and schools, including Title 1-supported students from low-income communities.
