It is a long yourney from eggs to chicks and adult birds. Especially when speaking about species that builds its nest on the ground in open landscape, and even in early spring. In that case, they will often build it in a field where it is relatively quiet. And then agricultural work such as fertilizing or sowing begins.
This is how a number of nests are destroyed and the subsequent decrease in bird populations is a direct consequence.
This species - northern lapwing is endangered for exactly these reasons.
Then such places as wetlands with various elevations in the terrain, where it can nest, are very important.
We had photographed these eggs in the wetland in Čiližská Radvan exactly a month ago.
Well, the little chick in the photo, which is crouching in the grass, is one of them. In June we found two chicks there, but we didn't want to disturb them, so we don't know if all four have hatched.
We consider this as a great success and we are very excited. And according to the activity of the nests, it looks like there will be more nests in the future.
