Forest steppes are the needed biotopes for rare European orchid species. Extensive grazing is preventing the locality from overgrowing and spreading of invasive species which would suppress the orchids. This area managed by BROZ is a part of Nation Nature Reserve Devínska Kobyla. Thanks to the apllied mangement rare species could be find here, e. g. plant species rock Buckthorn (Rhamnus saxatilis), Yellow restharrow (Ononis pusilla) - the only location of occurrence, orchids - Neotinea ustulata, Ophrys holosericea, Himantoglossum adriaticum (the biggest population in Slovakia), animal species as ladybird spiders (Eresus niger) or Styrian praying lacewings (Mantispa styriaca).
The grazing has been reintroduced here since 2013 and most of the infrastructure is complete. We are looking for partners willing to support us covering the overhead costs (additional food for animals during winter, veterinary costs, repair of the infrastructure, two employees that are taking care of the grazing and maintaining the area).
