Let´s bring more water to Sihoť Island-drinking water reservoir

Nowadays, Sihoť Island is a protected water source. As a matter of fact It is an important water source as well as living space for many species. The existing arm is a part of a boating area and represents a significant leisure possibility for the community.
However, since the 18th century, Danube has been alternated to suit various flood prevention measures and ship transportations requirements. That is why the Sihoť Island has not been subsidized by the water as it used to be in the past. The island was formed by multiple small islands segregated by small-scale river arms. Over time the arms were clogged as a consequence of the alteration that had been made on the Danube. The plan is to restore the original side arms that used to form the islands of Sihoť in the past. These measures will not only bring the river arms back but also restore the water dynamic and prevent them from sealing and restore floodplain forests that form the island. The whole ecosystem could be reestablished - habitats for invertebrates, amphibians and birds. Whereas it is situated in the city of Bratislava it becomes a key oasis for nature.
