The Amelia farm was the first plantation established as part of the Nicaforest project and marked the beginning of more than a decade of high-impact reforestation.
It began in January 2011 with a Shared Benefit Agreement signed between Nicaforest and the Cruz brothers, followed by the beginning of land preparations in April of the same year.
A total of over 67,000 teak trees, of which over 50% were clones of the best genetic material, were planted during the 2011 planting season (June-October).
More than 40 people were employed during the planting season, and it was also the first trial of growing beans between rows of teak seedlings. In total, more than 15 hectares of beans were planted achieving excellent results in food security for the local community.
Additionally, the soil properties were enhanced through the added nitrogen as a result of growing beans between the rows of seedlings
