The East African coastal forests, a biodiversity hotspot, face threats from human and natural factors. Although many efforts are being put into the conservation of these forests, important smaller patches are left out due to their size and small population of flora and faunas, yet they hold high significance in the ecosystem. These forest fragments are quickly getting smaller and are at risk of getting lost. Therefore, there is urgent need to scale up efforts for the conservation of these sites.
This project aims to generally create harmony between nature and people.
The communities are an important part of this project. They are the custodians of these areas. Their existence and survival depend on the resources obtained from these forest patches. Actively engaging the communities in conservation efforts not only helps them appreciate the resource but also helps bring harmony and somewhat tries to balance nature and humans.
Moreover, this project targets to popularize the conservation of these sites and eventually get these sites gazetted or coined as key biodiversity areas (KBAs) to sustainably keep up with the conservation efforts.
