Along the stream that flows through the Ecocamp, we created leaky dams. These are structures made of big trunks of trees, stones and clay; elements from the landscape that are present and not used.
The objective here is to enhance the infiltration of water into the soil and ultimately contribute to the restoration of the water cycle.
Intense rains in winter create erosion due to the force of water flowing down and taking topsoil and biomass - that contain valuable nutrients- along down to the lowest point, and ultimately into the see. We aim to prevent this process from happening and keep these valuable resources stored into the terrain.
The leaky dams slow down the flow of water, giving it time to sink into deeper layers and replenishing the underground deposits. Also, the dams make sure that valuable biomass and topsoil are caught and stored in the land, improving regenerative processes.
Also, the newest planting areas are close to the stream, which creates possibilities for the plants to reach for water in the stream over time.
