Huge mudslide Causes Damage

The rains are back, and massive silt rivers washed down from our neighbours' large arid hills above us by torrential downpours this 17th September, because they have no large trees to prevent the erosion. trees have been cut for charcoal and wood despite warnings and encouragement to plant trees. The worst mud slide passed right through our friend Mr Masurubu's home next door, who owns the hill, causing untold damage. Roads and shambas silted up and all hands rushed out to clear it.
This climate related disaster alongside floods is a yearly pattern that is destroying homes and fields and making people suffer. At Rwenzori Founders we were fortunate to be protected by our forests which absorbed rain water and re-directed channels around the trees. Elsewhere for homes beneath barren hills cultivated with crops like cassava - the plants are not strong enough to hold the loose soils, so huge mud erosion occurred during the storm. We know trees are the answer.
Our village ladies have already recognised the importance and have a thriving new tree nursery to support our planting in the community. If you can help - please purchase trees in the `Films for Change shop via: https://ko-fi.com/filmsforchange
Or, use the campaign button on this site to donate to our supporting Foundation.
