Theory of change

The project area will be conserved and enhanced, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while preserving an ecosystem rich in biodiversity. The Rio Madeira project is actively working with landowners and local communities to facilitate the transition of the local economy towards sustainable land use and forest conservation.

Climate change mitigation

Located in the Arc of Deforestation in Brazil, a region of significant deforestation, the project aims to protect the area from unauthorised logging and encroachment.

Impact areas

1. Forest protection and conservation

The project helps to reduce deforestation and preserve the lungs of the world: the Amazon forest.

2. Income diversification

Within the project employment opportunities in forest monitoring and fire management are created and alternative livelihoods and trainings.

3. Biodiversity conservation and monitoring system

The project takes care of the conservation of threatened primary forest habitat and ongoing inventories of local flora and fauna.
