Project
Promoting agroforestry to restore degraded forest

By joining Forests Forward, RONAP has made two important environmental commitments. First to increase forest cover by planting forest clearings. The second is the recovery of 250 degraded hectares through agroforestry systems, with a combination of crop- , fruit-, and native-tree species.

The first commitment will be achieved through the identification of the most suitable native species to be planted in the area. RONAP will promote the establishment of three seedling nurseries and will identify forest clearings using drones to cover over 3,200 hectares of forest to prioritise the most degraded areas.

To achieve the second commitment, the project will restore degraded forest patches within Brazil nut concessions, through capacity building for associates in the planting, maintenance, and use of agroforestry systems. This will allow the recovery and improvement of the integral functioning of the forests and the ecosystem services they provide, as well as ensure the connectivity of the managed concessions.

With these two objectives, RONAP further reaffirms its commitment to the environment by recovering more than 250 hectares of degraded areas, revaluing the forest and promoting a strong involvement of local communities.
