Monge Intervention Area
The initial intervention

This initiative marked the beginning of the intervention in this area, with the involvement of 49 volunteers from 2 different companies, and in cooperation with the municipal forest ranger team. The forest rangers had already cut the dense bramble bushes that infested the area, allowing the volunteers to proceed with the control of the alien vegetation species present, namely Acacia spp., using the debarking technique due to the plants’ size. Natural regeneration was complemented through the plantation of 60 trees and shrubs of various native species within the cleared areas and especially along the watercourse, in this case with the specific objective of restoring the riparian zone. The volunteers also built some natural engineering structures to regulate the torrential regime of the watercourse and to promote the formation of ponds in the long term. This is an important task in restoring the riparian zone as it helps provide conditions that support biodiversity. The group of volunteers was very dedicated to the work and enthusiastic about all the different aspects of the actions undertaken. It was a very promising beginning.
