Nourishing Kilifi’s schoolchildren and greening the landscape reached a new milestone. We have successfully planted another 1,525 fruit trees, with a total of 2,027 indigenous fruit trees grown in schools over the last year.
Alongside The LEAF, we positively impact 20 schools supporting over 2,000 students directly, expanding their understanding of environmental stewardship and transforming schoolyards into flourishing, biodiverse orchards.
Once the project is fully developed, these trees will cover approximately 2 hectares, a footprint that promises both nutrition security and a lasting legacy for Kilifi's environment.
We know these fruit trees are more than just a food source, they are an inspiration for land regeneration and biodiversity, bringing hope and greenery back to Kilifi communities.
We know the long-term community involvement is key to our project’s success. That’s why we’re committed to direct engagement with local schools and families, building a shared understanding of the environmental and nutritional benefits of these orchards. Regular activations keep everyone connected and motivated, while specific roles for community members are in place to ensure ongoing care and monitoring for each school’s fruit trees.
As we continue our tree propagation, we’re carefully preparing each school site to make sure these orchards thrive. Together, we’re cultivating community hubs in Kilifi, one school, one tree, and one generation at a time.
Now in our 3rd Year, Star Seed's partnership with The LEAF has successfully grown 6,706 indigenous trees and mangroves, impacting 2,240 community livelihoods and regenerating 3.5+ hectares of land.
