The Cha Simba Caves community is proving their unwavering commitment to restoring their precious ecosystem. In just a few short months, they have grown over 300 indigenous tree species, including rare and vital varieties like Afzelia quanzensis and Combretum schumannii.
Despite facing challenges like limited seed availability and destruction by ravenous rodents, they have made remarkable progress in their regeneration efforts. Thanks to the support of LEAF Charity and Botanic Garden Conservation International (BGCI), they have sourced more seeds and exponentially increased the number of seedlings in their nursery.
Some of the seedlings have already germinated and are ready to be transplanted, while others are thriving in makeshift milk packet pots. The community is motivated to continue their work, creating more space for the seedlings and empowering themselves economically in the process.
Their dedication and expertise are a powerful testament to their mission to restore the Chasimba ecosystem. Each tree and seedling they grow fortifies the resilience of the ecosystem, preserves vital indigenous plant species, and revives the ancient wisdom of plant medicine. The Cha Simba Caves community is proving that with hard work, determination, and support, we can all play a part in creating a better world for ourselves and our planet.
