Children in schools throughout Kilifi are repeatedly unable to attend school due to inadequate food supplies. No child should be unable to access education, yet this is the case for these children who have no reliable food supply. The LEAF and Star Seed are working to change that.

We have worked with 12 schools in Kilifi to increase environmental awareness, with the hope of enabling the school communities to produce their own food, providing for the current student body, and also establishing strong foundations for food security in the future.

The positive potential of nurturing fruit forests is extensive. By growing and preserving their own fruit trees, students are able to attend school and access education with the guarantee of food and nourishment, helping these communities to flourish. Beyond this, these fruit forests encourage native plant species to thrive, increasing biodiversity in the Kilifi area.
