Project
Conservation & agroforestry in Nwoya, Uganda

Nwoya district, in Uganda, is a fairly populated area where the major economic activities and sources of livelihood are hunting and farming. Delight Uganda Limited employs close to 1000 youths, including women, in various farming activities. They have an institute for training the community on good agricultural practices, fruit farming, and value addition.

TREEO and Delight Uganda Limited’s partnership has the goal to deliver high-quality Carbon Dioxide Removals (CDRs) through the afforestation of 100 hectares - in what was formerly bare land and grassland - on a 30-year project for agroforestry and conservation purposes.

TREEO supports pre-financing the tree-planting operations; the training and technical support for the use of the TREEO single-tree monitoring technology (TREEO App) for the yearly monitoring; and support in forestry and agroforestry best practices training and adherence to the TREEO standards. The tree nursery located within the farm mainly grows fruit tree seedlings. From the start of this partnership, tree species for TREEO conservation project have been booked to supplement what is already being raised in the nursery.

For the duration of the project, all waste from tree planting activities (including land clearing, pruning, and thinning) will go to biochar production for long-term carbon storage.
