Project
The ABALOBI ULWAZI Net-Work

The ULWAZI Net-Work (ULWAZI means “knowledge” in isiZulu) is a climate resilience initiative pioneered by ABALOBI which focuses on gathering local community knowledge on climate, social, and economic changes affecting small-scale fishing communities. Our partners in our project are KuLeuven University and Voices that count. Our approach centres on activating women in fisheries to lead community-based data collection. These women, trained as "Story Catchers" through ABALOBI’s ULWAZI Net-Work, gather stories, experiences, and observations from within their own communities. This approach anchors the data in real community experiences, fosters community ownership, and simultaneously builds local capacity while providing income opportunities.
