Project
Vale de Cevada Regenera

We bought this 15000 (1.5ha)sq meters of land in 2004. Started a process of regenerating and improvement of soil. The unfortunate events of 15 October 2017, the biggest fire in Europe, 110 people killed that year in Portugal alone, burned down our house and flatten the land- 95% of all trees died, our 8 bee-hives burned to ashes. The land was burned. No more life, all was black and dark. The lack of support from the State didn't help at different levels: we felt abandoned by Portugal and Europe. The only way out was up. So since 2018 we started slowly, and with no money at all, to replant, support the soil, create conditions for life. in 2023 we planted 120 trees (Oak and Strawberry tree) and started managing the Erica cinerea L. (Urze) that wanted to come back for the wild bees. In 2024 we will open a new local association of eco-social regeneration and use this plot of land as a hub for projects, educational and of research. That is why we do need your help.
Recently i was invited to help in a campaign against single use packaging, so i was invited to go and talk with MEP in the EU Parliament about the impact of the paper pulp industry in comunities like mine- the huge monoculture of eucaliptus engulfing oasis of bio diversity like our project. i have done a video in those terms to show them: its 6 minutes where you can see the situation: https://youtu.be/ggJoQ_Ehtho?si=K3dJD-vyrJo2Pfwz

Here one can see the survey we have done, a small catalogue of the flora world in Vale de Cevada (in portuguese, with fotos): https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZq4MzZ6cBzkqmn26BcefToxtnrAfSNc2OV
