We collected biomass and made it into small particals. Then we spread it thick layers on top of the soil in the planting lines and in the gutters we dug on contourline. The organic material has many functions:

• Protects the soil from the hars sun and wind in summer
• Protects the microbacterial and fungal life inside of the soil
• Holds water as a sponge, preventing evaporation
• As being decomposed by the fungi, it feed the soil with nutrients
• It builds up the critical topsoil
• It keeps dominant grasses in check
• Prevents the soil from drying out
