Project area 8: Small forest
cutting grass for biomass

🌾 Grass- once it's cut and dried- can serve as a great material to mulch the soil in your garden or around trees. Mulch is a great way to protect (the life in) your soil in dry and windy summer periods.
💦 You can cut the grass multiple times during the rain season since it will just shoot back. This was one of the last time we cut the grass since we don't expect a lot more rain falling down. But hopefully we can welcome one more rainshower so the grass can grow back once more.
🔥 At the same time, cutting your grass can be part of a fire risk prevention tactic, since fire likes to travel close to the ground.
🌳The trees are happy with the protective layer around their trunks, just as the microbacteria and fungi in the soil that will get a chance to survive.
We would prefer the scythe by hand but we have to use our time wisely- so the strimmer will do the job.
Bom fim de semana!
