Project area 6: Tree nursery
Bamboo to build our tree nursery

Bamboo for our treenursery!

During our last 'Friday for Future' we continued constructing the framework for the roof of the tree nursery. We used bamboo that is growing on the farm: A very strong and durable building material. Although some might argue that bamboo is invasive, it brings a lot of benefits:
💪🏼- Strong and quite flexible building material
🌿- Easy, fast-growing plant that will shoot back after cutting it down- Planting it close to where your used water leaves the house can feed this plant's need for water.

  • 🍃🪵🍂Great biomass producer- easy to feed into a wood chipper and then use to protect the soil- or to entirely put into swales to create a sponge effect.

We used the small twigs that we cut off as mulch to protect the soil around freshly planted trees. Be careful though with bamboo- it can be very useful but once you have it, it is hard to get rid of it again. But if you maintain it well, it can be very useful.
