Wald Klimaschutz Schweiz (WKSS) enables Swiss forest owners to invest into their forests and to make them more climate resilient. Revenue is generated through the issuance of carbon credits for the additional carbon capture and storage. Swiss companies can buy those certified credits to support local climate protection projects. By creating a financial incentive for responsible forest management, WKSS aims to slow down global warming and promote biodiversity, shifting from a system that is based on destruction and overlooks the ecological value of forests to one that prioritizes their conservation and restoration. WKSS's projects are executed based on the TÜV NORD Germany certified SILVACONSULT® Forest Carbon Standard methodology, which adheres to the ISO 14064-2:2019 standard for quantifying, monitoring, and reporting carbon projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Forest owners commit into a 30-year permanence contract that includes a 5-year exclusive commitment to participate in WKSS's forest climate protection project. This partnership ensures the long-term sustainability of the project and encourages responsible forest management. All income from carbon credits has to be reinvested into each forest, supporting the conservation and restoration of the ecosystem, which will be audited every year. All credits are only issued ex-post and based on the carbon sequestration of the previous year.
