In the northeast of Burkina Faso, our reforestation project is returning native forests to the area and reversing desertification. Embankments in the shape of half moons are dug into the hard soil which enables it to store water long enough for seeds to germinate. Local communities engage in collecting and caring for seeds and trees, and have economic incentive to transform the bare landscape into fertile, biologically diverse and productive forest.
