An amazing transformation

Yesaeda restoration site in Amanuel Zuria village was under great pressure from grazing. This led to severe land degradation, gully formation and soil erosion. WeForest and The Hunger Project and started restoring the site through exclosure management and assisted natural regeneration in February 2019. Structures for gully rehabilitation were built, the site was fenced, and a mix of native and exotic tree species were planted with the active participation of the community and district government representatives. After two years, a remarkable improvement can be seen! Soil erosion has been reduced, grass cover has improved, and the volume of water volume has increased in adjacent springs and downstream. The adjacent river that was there for only for four months before has become a perennial river - and a result, the productivity of households downstream has improved.
