Desa’a has approximately 90 tree species, but the old-growth forests here are dominated by Juniperus procera (the African juniper or African pencil-cedar)
and Olea europaea subsp. cuspidata(wild or African olive). The preponderance of 'beard mosses' (Usnea spp.) dripping from the trees is owing to the humidity from fog and mist – we're around 2600 m above sea level here.
