Some exciting news from Zambia today! 🐘 For the first time, our camera traps have captured footage of elephants in the Lavushimanda district, on one of the farms in our REDD+ carbon project area. It seems these gentle giants came up the Muchinga escarpment from the Luangwa Valley, drawn by the abundance of sugar plums – known locally as masuku fruits (Uapaca kirkiana) – which ripen in October.
This is a huge milestone for our landscape project in Muchinga Province, which focuses on restoring degraded miombo woodlands, preventing deforestation and enhancing biodiversity. It’s all about creating a thriving environment for both wildlife and the local communities who live alongside these forests.
