Summary
Yale First Nation adopted Passive Housing to address high heating bills. Funded by CMHC and the Band, six family units were built by Britco to Passive House standards, featuring increased insulation, airtightness, triple-pane windows, and heat recovery ventilation, making homes 80% more energy-efficient. Prefabrication reduced local labour costs, and the project, completed in five months, will save on heating and maintenance. An 18-month CMHC-funded study will monitor energy efficiency.
