About

Indigenous Women and Girls Initiative was founded in 2020. The community-based organization was had a mission to advocate for fundamental rights and freedom of indigenous women and girls in Bringo, Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet and other parts of Kenya. The organization comprises of; Pastoralist communities such as the Maasai, Samburu, Rendile ,Pokot, Turkana, Ilchamus, Borana, Gabra ,Teso, Karamojong, Oromos, Endorois, Nyangatom, Toposa, and Jie),fisher folks (Elmolo ,Desenach),hunter and gatherers (Ogiek ,Sengwer, Sanya, Yaaku, Waata and IK) who are struggling to get recognition, protection and transformation from the county government, national and at the International community.

The organization is a member of indigenous women council , a member at East and Southern Africa Pastoralist Network , and also in the minority and indigenous peoples working at the Universal Periodic Review team and lastly at the climate change working group in Kenya. The organization seeks to amplify the voices of women, girls in baringo and beyond to ensure that they rights are protected, and women have their voices heard in decision-making processes
