Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve
About

Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve (KWR) is a private wildlife reserve on the edge of the Kalahari in Namibia. It is managed by Berend and Friedrich Reinhard, two Namibian ecologists who have dedicated themselves to nature and species conservation. KWR was one of the first farms in Namibia to switch from cattle farming with some wildlife in 1980 to a farm that focuses exclusively on wildlife. KWR also participates in the Black Rhino Custodian Project, a national initiative that re-establishes black rhino in their former home ranges. Since 2014, KWR has been running the Kuzikus Mapping Project (KMP), a long-term drone mapping initiative that creates detailed aerial maps of KWR and its surroundings using AI-enhanced feature annotation, and ground-truth data from the field. The main purpose of KMP is to support the natural biodiversity of Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve by building a precise digital twin of KWR that can be used as a digital information and innovation resource.
