Active Restoration
Summary
Mismanagement of Polylepis forests in the Pampa de Achala region of Argentina led to their fragmentation and degradation, resulting in the current situation of isolated tree patches, or “tree islands”. To restore these forests to fully functioning ecosystems, Fundación Bosquizar is implementing a conservation management plan that includes planting native Polylepis trees and other vegetation that reduces soil erosion, promotes ground cover for water retention, and increases biodiversity.
