Project

The Ourika Valley, Morocco, where YSL Beauty has been cultivating a range of ingredients in the Ourika Community Gardens for nearly a decade (such as pomegranate, marshmallow, iris, jasmine, walnut, and saffron). This region lies at the heart of YSL’s beauty sustainability strategy and in the surrounding region,. The brand is helping to reverse the effects of desertification in 1,000 hectares (nearly 2,500 acres) of land and contribute to bettering the financial situation for several communities of women.

Above and beyond the Ourika Community Gardens, YSL Beauty has also worked more broadly throughout the Ourika Valley region since 2017, planting trees and restoring arid land affected by rising temperatures and frequent natural disasters. Thus far the program has planted with the help of local communities 50,000 trees including carob, olive, pomegranate, fig, almond, walnut, and peach. 380 hectares were put under protection and restoration management in the Atlas Mountains and Ourika Valley since 2017.

We’ve already taken part in a 380-hectares under protection and restoration management program with the High Atlas Foundation, which has benefitted over 20 villages in the Atlas Mountains and Ourika Valley. Our goal is to reach 1,000 hectares in 2025.

The Rewild Our Earth program aims to protect and restore 100,000 hectares by 2030 and to safeguard biodiversity in priority areas affected by climate change where YSL Beauty’s ingredients are sourced.
