Project
Efficient use of biomass potential for energy production

The potential of locally generated biomass like wood, farm waste, biosolids, and food waste for carbon-neutral energy production remains largely untapped. The same applies to its material use, that is, the recycling of biomass waste into secondary raw materials. Scrap wood, for example, can be recycled and used in the production of new furniture. It can also be used as an energy source when burned to produce heat. Based on available studies on biomass potential, a feasibility study will be conducted to determine the current versus the desired situation. Existing obstacles and challenges for the efficient use of local biomass potential will be also analysed. This providing a foundation for the development of strategies to promote biomass recycling and resource-conserving, efficient energy production. At present, relevant scientific resources are being compiled and the involvement of various cantonal offices is being organized.
