Project Showcased in Toko Telo Webinar

This live webinar event showcased the outputs of these in-field engagements and opened a discussion around the need for data collection and the use of ICTs in small-scale fishing communities globally.

Virtual Tour and Presentations

The virtual session kicked off with a virtual tour of the community-based monitoring projects in South Africa, Comoros, Indonesia, and Madagascar. The session featured short video presentations of engagements hosted within these communities in the months leading up to the webinar. These workshops focused on providing fishers, monitors, and ICT users with the opportunity to describe and discuss their experiences, share learnings, insights, benefits, and challenges related to data collection, and, where relevant, the use of ICTs for community-based monitoring in small-scale fisheries.

A Platform for Sharing Insights

The session provided a platform for fishers, data collectors, community members, and organizations working within these sectors to share learnings and insights based on their discussions. It stimulated a global community of practice that could continue to share learnings and best practices. The ICT4Fisheries group on the SSF Hub served as the main platform for queries about the event and further discussions.

The Goals of the Webinar

The session aimed to:

  • Provide fishers, monitors, and community members with the opportunity to reflect on and discuss their user experience, sharing learnings, insights, benefits, and challenges within their group and with others.
  • Create an opportunity for users and ICT practitioners to share lessons and experiences to improve how they utilize ICTs.
  • Provide context and generate interest through pre-recorded videos that highlighted the use of ICT4SSF.
