Project
Ecosystem Restoration in Europe

Over a century ago,, the land was mainly used for wine-growing purposes, but phylloxera decimated the vines in the late 19th century. Winegrowers did not replant in the region, and some plots were used for firewood production. The oldest trees in the forest of Monceaux sur Dordogne are between 30-50 years old. The Combejean stream which flows into the Dordogne flows right below the plot. It’s an essential environment for the salmon and trout which reproduce there.
The importance of ‘Biodiversity plots’ are increasingly being recognised by organisations and land owners, not only for their vital ecosystem functions such as soil fertilization and nutrient recycling, but because is essential for the processes that support all life on Earth. Even forests that produce timber can greatly benefit by conserving deadwood/ a portion of old forest which are places of life, sheltering numerous species of insects and birds.

We at EcoTree understand these stakes and are set on developing these kinds of projects.

We have decided to make these 20ha a biodiversity hotspot (no silviculture will be carried out here).

We will begin with a biodiversity inventory to take informed informed decisions to encourage high-stake species’ development. We plan to:

  • work with local experts
  • closely monitor terrestrial & aquatic biodiversity & its evolution over time
  • install nesting boxes (birds & bats)
  • support wild pollinator populations
  • create an interactive ‘educational trail’ to raise awareness with locals/schools

We are committed to sharing information from the field with our client companies: follow-up of interventions taking place on projects via the project page, regular reports, photos and videos.

We also have created a unique model that financially rewards individuals and firms for restoring and preserving sustainable forests in Europe. We're eventually closing the dilemma between untouched forests (needing public funding or philanthropy) or productive tree plantations (not sustainable); we let forests flourish AND provide at the same time! By owning the newly-planted trees they invest in, our clients secure both tangible environmental benefits (carbon sequestration, biodiversity preservation...) AND the perspective of a financial gain. With this unique concept of tree-ownership and the related return on investment, we have built a model that's not just ecologically sustainable, but also economically and financially sustainable. We’re turning good intentions into tangible action by financially rewarding the virtuous action of planting sustainable forest, rather than shaming, scaring and taxing. It's a reward for doing good!
We acquire land and develop new sustainable forests in Europe. When our worldwide clients buy our newly-planted trees online, securing both environmental benefits and a return on investment, we take a 30% cut on their initial purchase. Check all our forests in our website www.ecotree.green
