Easy Housing is a circular, biobased and climate-resilient building technology, based on sustainable timber, that offers a unique solution to the growing need for affordable, sustainable housing in African countries. It can be tailored to specific contexts through co-creation with various stakeholders and end users. Easy Homes are scalable, flexible, and affordable. The timber stores carbon, thus reducing the amount of CO2 emissions in the world. The construction process is quicker than traditional construction methods.
We work with localised value chains providing jobs and economic opportunities, as well as contributing to sustainable forestry. Easy Homes contribute to 16 out of the 17 SDGs. In addition, we have a growing carbon monetization department that will soon start selling carbon credits on the market. This lowers the final price of the homes while lowering the carbon footprint. We are seeking funding to scale up in sub-Saharan Africa. Our main objective is to provide a home for everyone that is safe, decent and affordable. That means unlocking housing finance to the urban, affordable housing market in Kampala, Uganda. We are thus seeking funding for our rent-to-own subscription programme. The proposed concept aims to revolutionise the affordable housing market by adopting a bottom-up, B2C approach that leverages the rent-to-own model and prefabrication techniques. By offering a standardised and customizable product, the goal is to provide cost-effective, sustainable housing solutions to individuals who already possess land in urban areas.
The concept utilises a subscription-based model, targeting specific markets through targeted advertising and building a list of interested subscribers. This approach minimises financial risks, attracts finance partners, and allows for scalability and replication in multiple cities. The core focus is on providing a simple timber envelope structure while allowing customers to add personalised finishing touches. The concept incorporates the generation and sale of carbon credits, creating additional revenue streams and enhancing the value proposition.
We launched the subscription campaign in August 2023 and we have over 100 subscribers already. Our marketing campaigns have been through social media platforms, exhibitions at workshops and conferences and word of mouth. We hope to maintain this momentum in the future, hence we are seeking the funds to pour into our regenerative fund. The requested funding will be used to develop a revolving fund from which Easy Homes will be pre-financed through rent-to-own schemes.
Below is a timeline of activities we intent to undertake in order to reach our rent-to-own goals
Launch the campaign and seek subscribers (August 2023)
Develop rent-to-own services including due diligence procedures in collaboration with Ugandan financial institutions (January 2024)
Establish legal entity to run the regenerative fund (January 2024)
Market Easy Homes to potential customers (February 2024)
Engage clients on waiting list and onboard them into the rent-to-own scheme (March 2024)
Establish workshop and train (female) carpenters (May 2024)
Start construction of the homes (June 2024)
Follow-up with customers to evaluate satisfaction and collect payments (July 2024, continuously)
Our goal is to implement the project from Q4 2023 - Q4 2025
