Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
By initiating women-run and women-led approaches, the project seeks to help women restore their homestead lands and increase their family incomes with horticulture and agroforestry crops. By involving women farmers in every phase of project implementation and decision-making processes, the project promotes women empowerment and gender equity thus contributing to SDG 5.
Climate Action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
The system of land use involving crop diversification and improved package of practice not only improves the productivity of land and soil health but also promotes agro-biodiversity conservation. Thus, the project involves climate change mitigation achieving the objective of SDG 13 of ‘Climate Action’.
Life on Land
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
The project activity comprising of ARR would help in maintaining the local microclimate, conserving soil and moisture, enhancing groundwater quality and quantity. Trees also provide food and shelter to a variety of birds, animals and insects thus enhancing local biodiversity. Trees hold on to the top layer of soil preventing its erosion and support further growth and survival of vegetation contributing to SDG 15.
