Reforestation 1,96 ha

The Cape Parrot Project aims to conserve the threatened, South African endemic, the Cape Parrot, through research, increasing habitat availability through restoration, and community involvement. This project will focus on restoring 1.0 hectares of protected Mistbelt forest land through alien invasive plant management, natural regeneration management, and, where needed, active planting of 1000 indigenous tree seedlings. Additionally, this project will provide support to local communities by purchasing 1000 seedlings from the local communal Sompondo nursery. Around 25% of these seedlings will be used for planting at this specific project site with 75% coming from the CPP local nursery, as the community has not yet managed to germinate the variety of species needed for this site. Lastly, eight community members from surrounding villages are also employed and up-skilled on a permanent basis to help restore the land.
