Animating the Carbon Cycle - the missing link between biodiversity and climate crises

There is a critical bridge between biodiversity and climate that is increasingly recognized by scientists and civil society. It is that healthy populations of wild animal species can have a major - but currently underappreciated and undervalued - positive impact on carbon drawdown and storage. Indeed, research is now showing that by bringing wildlife back to significant, near historic levels, they have the potential to “supercharge climate mitigation”. This science is called: “Animating the Carbon Cycle.”
The GRA has started in July with the University of Yale a modeling project to quantify the additional carbon sequestration of rewilding and to identify where best to invest to get the biggest return in terms of biodiversity and carbon sequestration. the modeling project will be finalized end of 2023. The worldwide network of the Global Rewilding Alliance will roll out the results as well theory and practice of ACC in a global communications campaign in early 2024.
