Project
Peatland restoration Hagen-Königsstuhl in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The main goal of the project is to re-stabilize the impaired water balance in the forest moor. The accumulation of water reduces peat decomposition and thus the release of carbon dioxide. It also leads to increased water supply in the dry summer months, groundwater protection and flood protection during heavy rain. An improved water balance creates a perfect habitat for the typical moorland flora and fauna (e.g. kingfishers, black storks, cranes and sea eagles).
