Artisanal mining is the main driver of economic development in Madre de Dios. However, it also brings mercury pollution, forest loss, and social problems. We are piloting co-designed and tailored interventions to minimize environmental damage through an interdisciplinary approach. These pilots will be evaluated with modern and rigorous methods, in partnership with local and global actors.
