Project
Kalahari Melon Oil - Turning a drought-resistant weed into a high-value cosmetics ingredient
South Africa, North-West Province started 2019 Active Agriculture, Research, Restoration
Summary
The community in the North-West Province of South Africa is being impacted by climate change. In particular, longer and harsher droughts. In 2018 alone, 30,000 jobs in the agricultural industry were lost as a direct result of drought. This project, funded by Innovate UK, is conducting research into the industrialisation and social impact potential of Kalahari Melon Oil - to create a sustainable new industry and to amplify the impact for marginalised communities impacted by climate change.
