Sandy river banks of Rotokino

The Rotokino River is a short river of the West Coast Region of New Zealand's South Island. It flows south from Lake Rotokino, draining its waters to the Whataroa River.

Brown colouring represents the thickness of erupted material above present river level that was deposited in two Sandy River channels. Various terrace heights are noted and were recorded in the years noted in the image. Trees from pre-Old-Maid time that were located adjacent to the banks of the Sandy River were buried by the increased sediment load and the trunks resurfaced after some of the material erosion.
