The Plains of Camdeboo Private Nature Reserve, covering 8,827 hectares, was formed in 2009 through the consolidation of 12 separate farm portions including parts of three of the original farms in the area. The land is being restored through indigenous planting and prevention of soil erosion, and indigenous animal species have been reintroduced to the area. The reserve is also included in the Mountain Zebra Camdeboo Protected Environment, proclaimed in March 2016.
