Background

The cooperative Agrícola Integral A´xola currently represents 76 coffee farmers in the region of Sierra de los Cuchumatanes of which 25% are women. Coffee cultivation has a long tradition in the member communities and the knowledge about best practice is passed on from one generation to the next. Additionally the cooperative provides technical assistance and experience exchange. The farmers are currently in the process of obtaining Fairtrade certification.
