Project
Tea fallow reforestation (North Bengal)

Reforestation of 2000 Hectares of Tea Garden (TG) fallows in three northern districts of West Bengal.
The project aim is to involve Reforestation and Revegetation in fallow tracts currently leased by commercial Tea Estates (TEs) for Carbon credits. The fallow lands belonging to tea estates were historically (pre-1840s) forests and native grasslands with deciduous forests near the riparian areas (WWF 2000, Dinerstein & Loucks, 2001)
The regional climate will likely change to Koppen Am (tropical monsoonal) from Cwa (temperate dry winter, hot/wet summer) in the future due to climate change, a forested landscape is going to be a likely successional vegetation type, thus supporting forest establishment (Beck et al, 2018).
